The internet was virtually built on the concept of free stuff and it’s really as much a part of the internet culture as email and cat memes. The internet didn’t invent the phenomenon that people like to get things for free. It’s human nature. The real question is whether you are going to work against human nature, or are you going to tap into that desire for free goodies for your marketing purposes.

While visitors to YouTube generally do not download the videos, they can see them for free as often as they wish and at no cost. Turn your clients into raving fans

I just want to talk a little bit about being likable in marketing. There are so many resources now that it can be difficult for the novice to know where to start. Here are some bullsh*t free basics.


Its not about you

Anything you write about yourself may well be perceived as bullsh*t by your potential clients.We can all write things like this about ourselves “We approach each project with creativity, integrity and collaboration.” Blah, blah, blah. Do you really? Prove it to your customer, because he doesn’t believe a word you say.

The web had given us all a level of accountability and transparency which in my opinion, is quite refreshing. It’s not about you. It is about your client, and they aren’t going to listen to you talk about yourself. You have to get real and to do that, you need to perform to a standard in customer service that makes your customer WANT to tell people how wonderful you are. Overdeliver. Be available. Respond. Call back. Look after your client the same way a man in the desert looks for water.

There is a reason for this. Reviews and testimonials. You need to look after your clients to the point where they are ecstatic about your service and dying to tell people about you. They will become your unofficial brand advocates. They will talk about you in social media, to their friends, to the dog and anyone who listens. This is important because the happy client doesn’t have to do this – they want to. People listen to what their friends say – it carries far more weight than what you say about yourself.
